Arunachal Pradesh is the largest state among all northeastern states of India. Formation: It was initially declared as a Union territory in 1972. Later 20th February, 1987 Arunachal Pradesh became the full fledged state of India.

Area: The total area covered by this state is 83,750 km². Its area rank is 15th.

Population: 1,382,600. It is 27th populated state in India i.e. very least populated state in India.

Population Density: Arunachal Pradesh is one of the least populated density area. It population density is 17 per sq km.

Sex Ratio: 938

Literacy Rate: Approximately 67 percent.

Official Language: Official language is English and Hindi. Aslo Monpa, Miji, Aka etc languages are spoken here.

Chief Minister: Pema Khandu is the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. He belongs to BJP party.

Governor: Padmanabha Acharya.

Number of District: Arunachal Pradesh formed with total 16 districts. Lower Subansiri is the largest district by area.

Capital: Itanagar.

Largest city: Itanagar is the largest city.


State Animal: Hoolock Gibbon is the state animal of Arunachal Pradesh.

State Birds: Hornbill is the state bird of this state.

State Flower: Foxtail orchid is the state flower of this state.

Known for/as:  It is known as the  “Land of Rising sun“ of India.

Famous Dances: Ponung, Wancho, Bardo, Buiya, Lion and Peacock etc. are the famous dances of this state.


Famous Festivals: Losar, Dree, Solung and Reh are the major festivals or Arunachal Pradesh.

Famous Temples: Tawang Monastery, GRL Gompa Monastery, Urgelling Monastery, Gorsam Chorten, Bomdila Monastery, Malinithan temple are famous here. Tawang Monastery is the second largest monastery in the world.

Important Tribes: Adis, Buguns, Wanchos, Monpas, Singphos etc are main tribes in Arunachal Pradesh.

Rivers: Lohit, Kameg, Dikrong, Tirap, Dibang, Subansiri, Dihing, Kamlang these rivers flow in the heart of this state.

Mountains or Peaks: Sela Peak, Namche Barwa, Kelingon, Dapha Bum, Komdi Mountain, Kangto etc. Tani Razi is the most prominent peak of Arunachal Pradesh.

Highest Peak: Tani Razi is the highest peak of Arunachal Pradesh.

Important Dams: Dibang Dam, Ranganadi Dam, Subansiri Lower Dam, Upper Siang etc.

Important Power plants: Upper Siang Hydroelectric Project is most important.

Industries: Weaving industry, Wood carving industry, Cane and Bamboo industry, Ornament and Tourism are the major industries of this state.

Minerals: dolomite, limestone, graphite, copper etc.

Agriculture: Agriculture is the primary occupation of the people of this state. Rice is the main crops due to good rain fall. Apple is also produced large amount here.

Lakes: Ganga, Madhuri, lake of no return, nagula etc lakes are famous here.

National Parks: Mouling National Park and Namdapha National Park are famous national parks in Arunachal Pradesh.
